Stumbling Into Love

For this post I am going to share how I met my boyfriend. I was not looking for anything but am really glad it turned out the way it did. I was separating from my husband and didn’t expect anything with anyone. I was going to try out the single life for a while. As per my usual style and as the title of this post states, I kind of stumbled into finding him and as Thanksgiving approaches he is certainly one of things I am thankful for in my life.

So to start with how we meet. We both played a phone game called Battle Bay (Just to note, I am not affiliated with this game in anyway). I saw his comments in the chat section of it and decided to start a direct chat with him. That prompted him to give me his phone number and we started to get to know each other. It was weird for me at first, because I had no real experience dating or getting to know someone and I am kind of awkward and shy at first. I was 24 and had been in a relationship since I was 17 with the same person. But it didn’t take too long for me to feel comfortable with him and really look forward to talking to him and then we planned a meeting. I lived in New York (not the city) and he lived in Tennessee.

This was really out of my comfort zone because as I had said before I had no experience dating or anything like that. We planned a meeting though and I drove down to Tennessee for a week to meet him. It was a 13.5 hour drive. I knew I was really starting to like him because I hate being in the car for more than an hour and a half and I was travelling way longer than that just to see him. Plus I woke up early the day I left to meet him because I wanted to make the trip in one day and I hated getting up early. I was NOT a morning person but for him I was trying.

One of my favorite things about him though that really made me want to meet him was that he called me. We did text as well but he called me on the phone almost every day and we talked (or more accurately I talked and he got a few words in here and there) for hours. That told me two things: 1) he must like me if he actually wants to talk on the phone because most people these days prefer texting and 2) he must really like me if he will talk to me for hours and every day because I am chatty and I tend to ramble and talk crazy and he kept calling me. I couldn’t believe it and neither could some of my friends who knew how crazy I could be, especially since he hadn’t even met me yet.

After spending a week with him, I was crazy about him. He was sweet, smart, funny, handsome and seemed to care about me. I had no idea what was going to happen or what I should do but I knew if he wanted to see me, I wanted to continue seeing him. That meeting took place one month after we met and a month after that, he asked me if I wanted to move in with him. I did. I wanted him to meet my dad and some of my family first though so before I moved everything down there, I drove to Tennessee to see him again and then went back to New York so he could meet my family. It seemed like everyone liked him and I was more than liking him.

We spent about a week in New York with my family and then I moved to Tennessee. 900 miles from the only home I had ever known and my dad. For the people that know me, this was huge. I NEVER thought I would move away from my dad. The furthest from him I had ever been was about two hours. This was a lot longer than that.

We have been together for about a year and a half now and I have not once regretted my decision to move in with him or down to Tennessee. It was a really quick start to the relationship and moved a lot faster than I thought it would or than I thought I wanted it to but it has been amazing and sometimes when you know, you know. For having met on a phone game it was one of the craziest things I have ever done but turned out to also be one of the best things I have ever done.
